The 2007 Mid-South VRCS Fly-in reunion again was a great success.
With the temperatures in the mid 70's, light winds and all sunny skies models took to the air early and flying was brisk for
both days. Many participants came as far as from the New England states to southern Georgia
and west as far as Arkansas. A great bunch of guys having fun with their vintage
RC models.
There were sounds of some real "Barkers" engines from Beppe Fascione's K&B Greenhead 45 to Earl Fortners ignition O&R 60! Many model years were represented
from the early days of old timer free flights to the late 60's pattern designs as well as several sports models. The were
some great looking Andrews TrainerMasters (VRCS Model of the Year) on hand and
all flew very well.
Our Concours event was full of several diverse designed models
form the Trainermasters to Dan Gretzihger's beautifully finished Goldberg Skylark twin. Also on hand was Russ Farris' beautifully
Goldberg Shoestring racer.
At the banquet Saturday night the awards that were given:
Youngest Pilot: Michael Gretzihger
Oldest pilot: Bob Bingaman
Concours: Russ Farris Goldberg Shoestring
Best Old Timer: Earl Fortner Lanzo Bomber
Best Finished Model: Dan Gretzihger
Technical Achievement: Dan Thompson 2.4G Galloping Ghost (You
Had to see this!!)
Also we gave an appreciation award to Pasty and Ralph Tudor for
the use of their marvelous flying facility and to their hard work in making this event so successful!
We has a special visit from Ed Ruane giving us a demonstration of some crack controline stunt flying. Ron was flying no other but one of
Hal DeBolt's All American Sr. and performed the vintage controline stunt pattern a few feet off the deck. Not bad for 70+
years young!!!!
We were served both days with fine refreshments and home cooked
food from Miss Christina Harris, Elizabeth Harris and Brian Taylor at the concession stand!!
All in all a great weekend of flying, conversing, laughs and having
a great time with friends from all over. If you missed it this year make sure to put the MidSouth VRCS flyin on your places
to go for 2008!!
